Short-Term & Long-Term Disability

Fischer Homes provides both Short-Term (“STD”) and Long-Term (“LTD”) disability insurance to help Associates cover a portion of their income if they are unable to work as a result of illness or injury.

Short-Term Disability is designed to provide Associates income protection if they become temporarily disabled due to a qualifying illness or a non-work related injury. STD pays eligible Associates 60% of their base salary for up to 13 weeks.

Long-Term Disability helps protect Associates and their family financially if they are unable to work for a period that extends beyond the STD benefit (90 consecutive days). LTD pays eligible Associates 60% of their monthly earnings up to a maximum of $10,000 per month.

For the purposes of STD and LTD benefits, “base salary” and “monthly earnings” is defined as regular base compensation in effect prior to the date disability begins.

The chart below depicts how disability benefits coordinate with other types of leaves of absence.

How Different Types of Leaves Coordinate

Type of Leave Maximum Duration
Short-Term Disability  Up to 13 weeks or 90 days in a rolling backward 12-month period.
Long-Term Disability Begins after STD ends and may last up to age 65 if disabled at age 62 or younger. If you became disabled after age 62 you may be eligible to continue receiving benefits past the normal end date.
Inclusive Leave  Up to 3 weeks in a rolling backward 12-month period.
Family & Medical Leave Act  Up to 12 weeks in a rolling backward 12-month period (unpaid).

Fischer Homes recognizes that there are times when Associates are unable to work due to illness or injury.  When an illness or injury occurs, Associates should complete and submit a Leave of Absence Request Form to the Payroll and Benefits department.

The Payroll and Benefits department will work directly with the Associate and their supervisor to qualify and administer any approved leave, including notifying the Associate of benefits available to them under the Short- or Long-Term Disability insurance plans.

Questions regarding leave should be directed to the Payroll and Benefits department at payroll@fischerhomes.com.
